District 9 (2009) Dan Goldwasser After seeing the film, I can say with confidence that Neill Blomkamp should not only be given whatever project he wants, but I will also be first in line to see it.

Drag Me to Hell (2009) Dan Goldwasser Drag Me to Hell is hardly a masterpiece of cinema, but it is leagues ahead of the bloated and painful Spider-Man 3, and shows that Raimi can still deliver a fun cinematic ride. I can't wait to see it again!

Terminator Salvation (2009) Dan Goldwasser Suffering from script and plot issues, as well as some major character flaws, Terminator Salvation is a flashy and at times entertaining film that should have been much better than it ended up being.

Star Trek (2009) Dan Goldwasser It remains to be seen whether this film will breathe new life to the franchise, but it certainly is one hell of a ride.

Up (2009) Dan Goldwasser Up might not be considered one of the best Pixar films, but it's a really good film, and definitely worth seeing.

Angels & Demons (2009) Dan Goldwasser Angels & Demons isn't a truly compelling film, and while it's engaging and well paced, it just doesn't hold the excitement as much as something like National Treasure.

State of Play (2009) Dan Goldwasser A gripping political thriller that mixes the intrigue of a murder investigation and political corruption, with a secondary story about the hybridization of new media and old-school journalism.

Knowing (2009) Dan Goldwasser I'd say Knowing is worth a rental, and it would be interesting to see if there is a more substantive director's cut that helps fill in a few of the holes.

I Love You, Man (2009) Dan Goldwasser I Love You, Man is a comedy that is rather predictable, with forced and uncomfortable situations, and only a smattering of laughs. It won't be remembered in two weeks.

Friday the 13th (2009) Dan Goldwasser If you're interested in seeing it, you can probably hold out for home video, but really you should just watch the original one.

The International (2009) Dan Goldwasser One of the best sequences in the film involves the attempted apprehension of an assassin - and the ultimate shootout in the Guggenheim Museum is truly a phenomenal action setpiece.

Coraline (2009) Dan Goldwasser Coraline is a film that showcases excellent talent from start to finish, and is an excellent example of the future of traditional animation, especially when seen in 3D.

The Reader (2008) Dan Goldwasser I suppose there's supposed to be some story about redemption and absolution or something, but it never really clicked for me.

Changeling (2008) Dan Goldwasser As a film that explores the impact of police corruption on the public, as well as a woman's unrelenting search for her missing son, Changeling is well worth checking out.

The Wrestler (2008) Dan Goldwasser While it might not be something to watch over and over again, it's an absolutely engaging and fascinating look at a sad character at the twilight of his career.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008) Dan Goldwasser It's not a conventional film by any means, and it's a great story told exceptionally well.

Burn After Reading (2008) Dan Goldwasser It's not something to run out and see, but on home video, Burn After Reading is worth checking out - just don't expect anything to linger.

Gran Torino (2008) Dan Goldwasser This is a movie that is all about Clint and his performance, and it's one that is well worth seeing.

Defiance (2008) Dan Goldwasser Defiance is an interesting movie that tells a little-known story of survival and heroism during World War II. It's worth checking out, but there are better WWII films out there; this one might be better served on home video.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2008) Dan Goldwasser It runs a little on the long side, but The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is certainly worth your time, and a highly enjoyable journey through a man's life.

Body of Lies (2008) Dan Goldwasser Body of Lies is a good film, but not a great film. It has enjoyable moments, but a few character issues and a predictable romantic angle prevent it from being a much better movie.

Appaloosa (2008) Dan Goldwasser Appaloosa will not rank up there as a great Western, but it certainly satisfies the requirements to be a solid and enjoyable one.

Eagle Eye (2008) Dan Goldwasser Eagle Eye might not deliver anything truly amazing, but in terms of escapist fare, it's not bad entertainment - it's just not smart.

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) Dan Goldwasser The Nightmare Before Christmas is probably one of Tim Burton's most imaginative and best projects; similarly, it is one of Elfman's best musical works. How the West Was Won (1962) Dan Goldwasser It's best seen on as big a television as you can find; the new transfer is excellent and I would strongly recommend you check this one out, even as rental.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) Dan Goldwasser It's a disappointing film that heralds the end of Summer 2008, and hopefully puts and end to the franchise as well.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008) Dan Goldwasser It's a fun bit of entertainment, but it doesn't have as intricate a story as the first film, and at times it felt like Del Toro was going a bit overboard with the eyecandy.

Hancock (2008) Dan Goldwasser Hancock isn't a very good movie. Trying to hold a bunch of action sequences together with a nonsensical storyline and an alcoholic superhero who we can't relate to or care about doesn't make this a movie to run out and see. At least it's short.

The Incredible Hulk (2008) Dan Goldwasser With Marvel Studios' The Incredible Hulk, they not only wash away the bad taste of Ang Lee's 2003 portrayal of Bruce Banner as a tortured soul (Hulk), but bring us a rather kickin-superhero movie that has a solid (albeit simplistic) storyline, rela

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) Dan Goldwasser It's competently crafted, but not anything you need to rush out and see. If you want nostalgia, watch the original trilogy.

3.5/5
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008) Dan Goldwasser Ultimately a coming-of-age story, Prince Caspian is a solid film that runs a tad too long (144-minutes!) and while some of the magic from the first film is gone, it's about a Narnia that has fallen into a dark time, and well worth checking out.

Speed Racer (2008) Dan Goldwasser Some of the race sequences are cool, but the use of oversaturated color, and the unnecessarily confusing plot about stock manipulation combined with the very simple storyline makes Speed Racer a rental. Your retinas will thank me.

Iron Man (2008) Dan Goldwasser With a fun performance by Robert Downey Jr., a relatively solid storyline and a lot of exciting sequences, Iron Man kicks off the summer of 2008 with a blast.
