Rating Title/Year Author
3.5/5 The Grey (2012) Jeff Otto A solid piece of escapist fare, pure and simple. EDIT

F One for the Money (2012) Jeff Otto We're meant to laugh at the fact that cute little Stephanie bumbles her way to getting one informant killed and another savagely beaten and thrown from a moving vehicle. Oh Stephanie, you're a riot! EDIT

D The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 (2011) Jeff Otto Easily the weakest entry in the series, it's the fault not just of a director who seems to find difficulty connecting to the material, but of a cast that seems to be looking forward to the close of the franchise a whole lot more than fans are. EDIT

C+ Cowboys & Aliens (2011) Jeff Otto Craig channels Clint Eastwood's Man With No Name, adding a dose of modern edginess and a dab of Steve McQueen cool. EDIT
Posted Jul 25, 2011
F Atlas Shrugged: Part 1 (2011) Jeff Otto The shame of "Atlas Shrugged: Part I," irrespective of politics and prose, is that a work so long-discussed has been so blatantly bastardized in the name of a quick buck. EDIT

1.5/5 The Mechanic (2011) Jeff Otto 'The Mechanic' is the prototypical early year action movie-nothing more and nothing less. Statham, who again plays an infallible, lethal bad-ass, seems to have carved his niche as the current go-to guy for B-movie action flicks. EDIT

5/10 The Winning Season (2009) Jeff Otto "The Winning Season" teeters hither and thither on its tonal seesaw, never quite sure where its going and often forgetful of where it's been. EDIT
Posted Sep 3, 2010
5/10 The A-Team (2010) Jeff Otto It's too bad that after all these years of revisions and revamps they never really got it. This plan might come together to please the execs at Fox, but Hannibal would be ashamed. EDIT
Posted Jun 10, 2010
1/10 A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010) Jeff Otto 2010's Nightmare isn't just flawed, but without any merit whatsoever, amongst the worst of Platinum Dunes' cinematic abortions and as bad, if not worse, than Freddy's Revenge and Freddy's Dead. EDIT
Posted Apr 29, 2010
8/10 Hot Tub Time Machine (2010) Jeff Otto Like the comedies of the decade it returns to, Hot Tub is a balls-to-the-wall Hard-R comedy complete with tasteless humor, nudity and foul language. And thank God. It's about time we put those p***ified, lame PG-13 teen comedies to bed once and for all. EDIT

6.5/10 Alice in Wonderland (2010) Jeff Otto Did Burton get bored in Wonderland? The end result is a movie that is decently enjoyable escapism, but entirely forgettable in the long run. EDIT
Posted Mar 4, 2010
7.5/10 The Crazies (2010) Jeff Otto It's escapism without being stupid, capable of taking the audience on a ride while still giving them something to talk about on the drive home. EDIT
Posted Feb 26, 2010
7/10 House (1977) Jeff Otto Plenty of films throughout the years have been called "nightmarish" but never has the statement been more true than in the case of Hausu. EDIT
Posted Feb 17, 2010
2.5/10 The Wolfman (2010) Jeff Otto Wolfman is more a slasher flick than a monster movie. He moves like a locomotive and kills like Jason Voorhees, slashing throats, de-limbing, beheading and gutting with repulsive efficiency. EDIT
Posted Feb 11, 2010
9/10 Crazy Heart (2009) Jeff Otto For my money, anything short of an Oscar for Bridges would be a sin. I'd also call it the best movie of 2009. EDIT
Posted Feb 9, 2010
8/10 World's Greatest Dad (2009) Jeff Otto It's the kind of flick that makes you laugh and feel like maybe you shouldn't be chuckling quite so hard. Well you shouldn't, you sick bastard. EDIT
Posted Jan 29, 2010
2/5 The Ugly Truth (2009) Jeff Otto As usual, characters end up in an escalating series of preposterous events and zany hijinks that, while being occasionally amusing, aren't much different from watching your average humdrum situational TV comedy. EDIT
Posted Jul 21, 2009
3/5 Year One (2009) Jeff Otto You heard it here first: Year One is the best prehistoric comedy of 2009. EDIT
Posted Jun 19, 2009
3/5 Whatever Works (2009) Jeff Otto I prefer my Woody and my Larry in separate doses. Perhaps it's sometimes best to choose just the peanut butter or the chocolate. EDIT
Posted Jun 18, 2009
4.5/5 The Hangover (2009) Jeff Otto Big laughs, tigers, Heather Graham breast-feeding, naked Asian man beating the boys with a tire iron, Mike Tyson singing Phil Collins%u2026 I'm trying, but I'm not finding much to dislike here. EDIT
Posted Jun 4, 2009
3.5/5 Away We Go (2009) Jeff Otto Away We Go feels like Sam Mendes saying, "Hey, look, I can just make an entertaining, smart movie. No awards consideration necessary." EDIT
Posted Jun 4, 2009
2/5 Terminator Salvation (2009) Jeff Otto Often considered one of the greatest actors of his generation, Bale's performance is shockingly lifeless. EDIT
Posted May 21, 2009
5/5 Drag Me to Hell (2009) Jeff Otto Does Raimi really have to go back and do another frickin' Spider-Man movie after this? EDIT
Posted May 21, 2009
4/5 Inglourious Basterds (2009) Jeff Otto Tarantino tries his hand at an international ensemble with some rather 'Inglourious' results. EDIT
Posted May 21, 2009
2.5/5 Duplicity (2009) Jeff Otto The term 'thriller' might be overstating things a bit, although the slow motion battle between Wilkinson and Giamatti will live on in my memory for years to come. EDIT
Posted Mar 19, 2009
4/5 I Love You, Man (2009) Jeff Otto I never thought I'd see the movie that made me laugh consistently with references to Lou Ferrigno, Rush and 'Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium.' EDIT
Posted Mar 17, 2009
2/5 Miss March (2009) Jeff Otto The first post-coma diarrhea joke was cringe-worthy. The third post-coma diarrhea joke was merely nauseating. EDIT
Posted Mar 12, 2009
4/10 The Brave One (2007) Jeff Otto Curtis the Dog and Erica Bain review The Brave One. EDIT
Posted Sep 13, 2007
2/10 Halloween (2007) Jeff Otto Have you ever been driving down the road and a song you know starts to play on the radio? Wait a second! What the heck is this? This isn't the original. Who is this? Your heart drops. Oh man, this is just some lame cover version. You flip the channel. EDIT
Posted Aug 31, 2007
8/10 The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) Jeff Otto The action starts almost from the opening frame, with a rare breath of air in its lean 111 minutes for audiences to hit the restrooms without missing a good part. EDIT
Posted Aug 3, 2007
9/10 Sunshine (2007) Jeff Otto Intense and enthralling...director Danny Boyle has crafted a different breed of summer thriller that delivers on all levels. EDIT
Posted Jul 20, 2007
7/10 Sicko (2007) Jeff Otto I enjoyed Sicko. It's just that if I were less informed, I might have made my plans to go ahead and move to Cuba after exiting the theater. EDIT
Posted Jun 29, 2007
9/10 Live Free or Die Hard (2007) Jeff Otto Step aside Captain Jack. Swing that web the other way, Spidey. You let us down, Silver Surfer. Yes, John McClane just kicked the $#%# out of all of ya'll. "Yippee Ki Yay Mo...!" EDIT
Posted Jun 26, 2007
8/10 1408 (2007) Jeff Otto Finally, a good old fashioned scary movie. And hey, it's PG-13 so why not bring the kids along for a little psychological scarring? EDIT
Posted Jun 22, 2007
5/10 Evan Almighty (2007) Jeff Otto Follows the standard rules of a mainstream comedy and there are few surprises. The story is lifeless and the only thing keeping it from being a complete and utter mess is the talented cast. EDIT
Posted Jun 22, 2007
9/10 Knocked Up (2007) Jeff Otto Knocked Up is an ambient, funny movie more devoted to enjoying the journey of its characters' world than it is bothered with its destination. EDIT
Posted Jun 5, 2007
3/10 The Number 23 (2007) Jeff Otto 23 Reasons You Shouldn't Bother Seeing The Number 23. EDIT
Posted Feb 23, 2007
7/10 The Night Listener (2006) Jeff Otto A small suspense-thriller to scratch your Hitchcockian itch. EDIT
Posted Jan 11, 2007
6/10 Charlotte's Web (2006) Jeff Otto A lackluster live-action remake of E.B. White's classic children's tale. EDIT
Posted Dec 22, 2006
6/10 We Are Marshall (2006) Jeff Otto We Are Marshall has plenty of heart. Unfortunately, that heart is dipped in a vat of caramel and topped with marshmallows. EDIT
Posted Dec 22, 2006
9.25/10 The Departed (2006) Jeff Otto It's Scorsese's best film since 1990's GoodFellas. Oscar? Maybe. Classic? Definitely. EDIT
Posted Oct 4, 2006
4.5/5 Metallica: Some Kind of Monster (2004) Jeff Otto Head-bangers and novice metalheads alike should find this bare-bones, honest, often brutal rock movie an intriguing and compelling look into the lives of rock n' roll legends. EDIT
Posted Jul 6, 2004
1.5/5 Fahrenheit 9/11 (2004) Jeff Otto Michael Moore's new documentary is more ranting and raving than effective filmmaking. EDIT
Posted Jun 24, 2004
3/5 Napoleon Dynamite (2004) Jeff Otto One of the more bizarre and original characters in recent memory, Napoleon provides some great laughs despite an uneven story that often loses steam. EDIT
Posted Jun 17, 2004
4.5/5 Dawn of the Dead (2004) Jeff Otto A rare remake that improves upon the original. The best horror films in years. EDIT
