Coming 2 America (2021) Debashine Thangevelo The script is witty and laden with plenty of side-splitting moments. At the same time, it is underpinned by an unmistakable empowering female trope. EDIT

Music (2021) Debashine Thangevelo While Sia clearly got the casting right, she didn't fulfil her resolve to tell a story that is insightful, impactful and captivating. EDIT

2/5 Wonder Woman 1984 (2020) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Everything seemed stacked in Wonder Woman 1984's favour. However, it seems DC once again took a giant step backwards as this film is one big incoherent cliché mess. EDIT

2.5/5 Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey (2020) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Overall, the idea of the movie is great and the set design along with the costuming is phenomenal. If you have small kids then they will enjoy it, however, has an adult this isn't gonna transport you to childhood or make you believe. EDIT

Santana (2020) Debashine Thangevelo It's entertaining -- certainly judging by the rating it received. But it's an average action flick, bolstered by a few sex scenes, interesting cultural backdrops and familiar local faces. EDIT

Seriously Single (2020) Debashine Thangevelo This is a movie that every girl (and guy) can relate to, on some level. The overall casting is sheer genius. Mugovhani and Morake have such wonderful chemistry. EDIT

Black Is King (2020) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Black Is King is a feast for the eyes with beautiful cinematography and styling choices. The way Beyoncé was able to weave several cultural references from across the continent is something to behold. EDIT

3/5 The Old Guard (2020) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Overall, The Old Guard is a cute popcorn film that is a nice distraction for two hours. The movie does end on a cliff hanger so we'll have to see if it does get greenlit for a sequel. EDIT
Posted Aug 13, 2020
2/5 Project Power (2020) Jamal-Dean Grootboom I initially thought that Project Power was a mediocre film that's nice to watch if you have some time to spare, but as I kept watching the less interested I was in how the story would end. EDIT
Posted Aug 13, 2020
3.5/5 Moffie (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Moffie is a feast for the eyes, and Ramsey really tells a story with the way the movie is presented on screen. EDIT
Posted Mar 13, 2020
3.5/5 Moffie (2019) Theolin Tembo Oliver Hermanus delivers a visually and technically stellar film, and even with its story structure, is still worth the price of admission. EDIT
Posted Mar 12, 2020
4/5 Knuckle City (2019) Alyssia Birjalal Knuckle City is a truly authentic take on the boxing culture in Mdantsane, the boxing mecca of South Africa... EDIT
Posted Feb 28, 2020
Sonic the Hedgehog (2020) Jamal-Dean Grootboom The characters are surprisingly on point. I fully went into this movie expecting the worst and ended up finding Sonic very endearing and this is largely due to Schwartz's voice acting. EDIT

7.5/10 Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) (2020) Luther de Lange If you want an intensive Superhero film with a timeline and overarching stories, massive fighting scenes, and world-ending villains, you might want to wait until Birds of Prey is out of the cinema. EDIT
Posted Feb 14, 2020
4/5 Ford v Ferrari (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom The chemistry between the actors is what keeps the film going throughout the running time. Director James Mangold does a great job balancing the emotional moments with the faced-paced racing set pieces. EDIT
Posted Nov 22, 2019
6/10 Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) Luther de Lange The film keeps the feel of the original from from start to finish and has humorous and entertaining moments throughout. EDIT
Posted Nov 7, 2019
2/5 Gemini Man (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom This movie has a great premise but horrible execution. EDIT
Posted Oct 11, 2019
3.5/5 Ad Astra (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Ad Astra is worth the trip to the cinema with Pitt giving a stellar performance. EDIT
Posted Sep 20, 2019
() Alyssia Birjalal Visually the film offers a stunning pallet of earthly tones and the set design is exemplary. EDIT
Posted Sep 19, 2019
Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood (2019) Orielle Berry Tarantino is at his best, creating a masterpiece that should be seen by every movie buff and lover of good acting and brilliant cinematography. EDIT
Posted Sep 5, 2019
3.5/5 The Lion King (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Does this remake have the same magic as the original? No. But it takes nothing away from the animation classic and is a good adaptation. EDIT
Posted Jul 19, 2019
Ma (2019) Lebohang Mosia Ma is a few more drafts from perfection, but the actor playing her is the real deal. EDIT
Posted Jun 28, 2019
The Secret Life of Pets 2 (2019) Masego Panyane The script is laden with a welcome dose of comedy. And it gets a stamp of approval from me. Of course, I'm pretty sure I won't be alone on this -- kids are going to love it. EDIT
Posted Jun 28, 2019
4/5 Rocketman (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom The musical numbers are grand, the acting is great and this is a must watch film for Elton John fans. EDIT
Posted Jun 7, 2019
Dark Phoenix (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom The pacing in Dark Phoenix is slow and it feels as if characters are merely moving from one set piece to the next for the sake of action sequences EDIT
Posted Jun 7, 2019
3/5 Aladdin (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Aladdin is still an enjoyable film with vibrant colours, a lovable Genie and you will still get the Disney feel. It falls short due to Ritchie's indecisive direction and wooden acting from Scott and Massoud. EDIT
Posted May 24, 2019
3/5 Pokémon Detective Pikachu (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Even though the human characters are a snooze, the vibrancy and exuberance of all the Pokémon make up for it in spades. EDIT
Posted May 20, 2019
3.5/5 Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (2019) Orielle Berry This film may may not be everybody's cup of tea being largely set within prisons and court rooms. But from a point of view of how a man could con the public and even those close to him for so long, it's a thoroughly fascinating and well-made film. EDIT
Posted May 9, 2019
The Perfect Date (2019) Helen Herimbi The Perfect Date is imperfect in that it attempts a romcom formula that has been done much better in other places. EDIT
Posted May 3, 2019
5/5 Avengers: Endgame (2019) Carmelita Fredericks The Russo brothers, writers and cast really outdid themselves with this one, and this is evident in the witty script, multiple plot twists and scenes that will have you erupting in laughter or holding your breath. EDIT
Posted Apr 26, 2019
3/5 Someone Great (2019) Carmelita Fredericks Someone Great is essentially easy to watch, and will keep you entertained with its talented cast, but if you're looking for a rom-com, this is not it. EDIT
Posted Apr 25, 2019
Avengers: Endgame (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom This is one of those movies you have to watch in the cinema with other people. You won't regret it. EDIT
Posted Apr 25, 2019
4/5 Us (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Peele has a perfect balance of comedy and horror when it comes to tone, and the cinematography as a whole is spectacular. The acting is also amazing. EDIT
Posted Apr 4, 2019
Cold Pursuit (2019) Orielle Berry Take it all with a pinch of salt -- it's a darkly comedic parody on crime's worst case scenarios. EDIT
Posted Mar 22, 2019
Red Room (2017) Masego Panyane Of all the things that go wrong in the movie, there are a few saving graces and that is particularly the acting. EDIT
Posted Mar 15, 2019
4/5 Captain Marvel (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom At this point, Marvel Studios can do no wrong and Captain Marvel is not only a great stand-alone film but also gives some established characters more depth. EDIT
Posted Mar 8, 2019
2/5 Isn't It Romantic (2019) Carmelita Fredericks The script is witty but predictable, and you might find yourself checking how many minutes are left on the runtime halfway through the movie. EDIT
Posted Feb 28, 2019
What Men Want (2019) Debashine Thangevelo The writers have ensured the #MeToo undertones are included in the script, masked with comic levity. EDIT
Posted Feb 22, 2019
Green Book (2018) Orielle Berry It's really enjoyable to watch and despite the criticism of it being a "white saviour" film, it's essentially about two racially diverse men who get to know each other - and are thus saved from their own shortcomings. EDIT
Posted Feb 21, 2019
3/5 Alita: Battle Angel (2019) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Near the end of the film, it was also very obvious that they had either run out of time or budget since the movie started looking like a video game cut scene. EDIT
Posted Feb 15, 2019
Sew the Winter to My Skin (2018) Masego Panyane Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, one that I would encourage other people to watch too. EDIT
Posted Feb 8, 2019
Green Book (2018) Jamal-Dean Grootboom This film coddles white viewers to make them feel good on the inside while black/people of colour viewers are left looking at a jaded film that wasn't made with a true black perspective in mind. EDIT
Posted Feb 8, 2019
The Upside (2017) Helen Herimbi The Upside is two hours of feel-good cinema that you'll probably forget about as soon as you leave the theatre and get hit by reality again, but it's worth the watch. EDIT
Posted Feb 7, 2019
Wizard (Matwetwe) (2017) Masego Panyane Matwetwe's colourful portrayal of the tribulations of coming of age, exploring sexuality, planning for a future in a country where youth unemployment sits at a staggering 55% and the dazzling street fashion are nuanced but equally playful. EDIT
Posted Jan 31, 2019
On the Basis of Sex (2018) Orielle Berry A stirring and immersive film. EDIT
Posted Jan 31, 2019
Glass (2019) Shingai Darangwa It's weird, it's daring and it's different, which is why it works. EDIT
Posted Jan 18, 2019
3.5/5 The Mule (2018) Orielle Berry [Eastwood] has succeeded in portraying a man who may appear doddery but seems totally in control of his situation and, to boot, almost enjoys it. EDIT
Posted Jan 18, 2019
3.5/5 Aquaman (2018) Jamal-Dean Grootboom The costuming is on point and the visuals of the film are amazing. Atlantis, in particular, feels like an underwater Pandora and is a feast for the eyes. Where the wheels start falling off is continuity, scriptwriting and use of characters. EDIT
Posted Dec 21, 2018
2.5/5 Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (2018) Jamal-Dean Grootboom Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle's lack of tonal consistency which makes it too dark for kids and not dark enough for adults. Falling into this weird middle ground that makes it unclear as to who this film was made for. EDIT
Posted Dec 7, 2018
Creed II (2018) Masego Panyane The chemistry between the cast members - whether it's between Stallone and Jordan or Thompson and Jordan - makes the film all the more believable. EDIT
